Steelers' Harrison Not Surprised By Batch's Heroics

BALTIMORE (93-7 THE FAN) — The Steelers defense, statistically, the best in pro football, hadn’t been forcing many crucial turnovers, and outside linebacker James Harrison hadn’t been his usual dominant self. Both those things changed on Sunday.

In the fourth quarter Harrison answered an Ed Reed interception with a sack-and-strip of Joe Flacco, which produced a Ziggy Hood fumble recovery, and subsequent game-tying touchdown en route to a 23-20 upset of the Ravens (9-3) at M&T Bank Stadium.

“I slapped [left tackle Michael Oher's] hands down and was able to get around the corner. Flacco held the ball a little longer than usual, the coverage held up, and you got what you got,” Harrison explained after helping to snap Baltimore’s 16-game home winning streak.

In retrospect, this day will be remembered not just for that play, but for ever-popular backup quarterback and Homestead native Charlie Batch–the oldest active non-kicker in the NFL–leading the offense to an improbable win.

Improbable, that is, to most, but according to Harrison, not improbable to his teammates:

The Steelers (7-5) will try to keep the momentum rolling when lowly San Diego (4-8) visits Heinz Field for a 1:00 contest next Sunday.
