Miller Speaks About Game-Tying Stretch

BALTIMORE (93-7 THE FAN) — To say this was the Steelers’ biggest win of the season would not be a stretch, and to say that tight end Heath Miller’s fourth-quarter stretch was a turning point isn’t a stretch, either.

Down 20-13, the defense overcame an Ed Reed interception by forcing a Joe Flacco Fumble, which led to a game-tying touchdown by a prone Miller, who went full extension to graze the nearby pylon before landing out of bounds–or so photographic evidence suggests.

After review, the ruling on the field of a score stood. Should it have?

“I never know,” said a laughing Miller, who was one of four Steelers to finish with five catches, and led the team with 97 yards receiving in its 23-20 victory over the Ravens (9-3) at M&T Bank Stadium. “I’m trying to get clarity on the rules when I’m on the field, but fortunately it did. Once I saw what they were looking at, I thought it would be hard enough for them to find conclusive evidence to overturn.”

As impressive as the play was, Miller was equally impressed with the play of his teammates on the game’s final drive, culminating in a winning 42-yard field goal by Shaun Suisham.

“Every play was a positive play. We were moving forward. Obviously the penalty…was huge…but I can’t say enough about the guys on our team–offense, defense, and special teams–tonight,” he added. “I’m proud of the way this team fought tonight.”

Specifically, he sung the praises of a heroic Charlie Batch and his injury-plagued offensive line:

Next up for the Steelers (7-5), who cling to the final AFC playoff spot with four games left, is a meeting with San Diego (4-8) at Heinz Field next Sunday at 1:00.
