Panther Hollow: Chryst Wants All To Learn From Loss

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — Offensively the Panthers left much to be desired last Friday, but Paul Chryst exempts no one from criticism following a 14-13 loss to lowly Syracuse in Big East action at the Carrier Dome.

“I've talked to the team that no one person is responsible for a loss or no one unit is responsible for the loss. Everyone could have done something else that maybe says, you know what, you win it,” the head coach said on the South Side Monday morning. “That's the great thing about playing on a team. There are certainly things that every guy that played in the game can build on, and I think clearly where we have to grow and eliminate some mistakes.”

At his weekly press conference Chryst did specifically address the play of his linemen. Despite another commendable effort from Tino Sunseri, he was under pressure at critical times, and the running game could not punctuate any drives, managing just 27 yards in all on 37 attempts.

Pitt managed 229 on 37 combined carries in their most recent victory, against Gardner-Webb.

“I think they're getting better. I'd like to think that. Nobody is at the point where we feel like they're ready to take over…but I think they're getting better,” Chryst said. “Right now those are the five best, there's no doubt in my mind. Those are the five best that we have right now.”

Moving forward, Pitt welcomes No. 18 Louisville to town for homecoming this weekend. Chryst previewed the in-conference matchup, which features an interesting quarterback duel between redshirt senior Sunseri and promising sophomore Teddy Bridgewater, and he also remarked about the uncommon start time (see below):
