PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — What had been a position of strength in back-to-back wins was not so in a 14-13 loss at Syracuse last Friday. Left guard Chris Jacobson, the most veteran member of that group, believes this current collection of personnel can regroup in time for No. 18 Louisville’s visit to Heinz Field Saturday morning.
“There’s a great group up front, and (center Ryan) Turnley does a great job leading it. He’s the one who starts it. He’s the one who’s got to make the calls for everybody. Cory (King) is a new guy up there, and ‘Roth’ (Matt Rotheram) too. He’s doing a great job. We’re working hard in practice, we’re on point, we’re watching film…there’s just been some situations where we needed to adjust, and we didn’t,” Jacobson said before practice on the South Side Monday.
According to Jacobson, the Orange did not do anything in particular tactically that caught the Panthers off guard.
“We’re starting to run the ball better, so now [our opponents'] key is stop us from running the ball,” he explained. “But that’s expected, and they’re still going to do stuff you don’t see on film. You have to be able to adjust and be ready to play.”
