CBS Pittsburgh: Daylight Savings A Time To Update Smoke Alarms Nov 3rd 2012, 22:41 CBS Pittsburgh News, Sports, Weather, Traffic and the Best of Pittsburgh Daylight Savings A Time To Update Smoke Alarms Nov 3rd 2012, 22:40 PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Officials are urging people to change smoke detector batteries, along with changing back their clocks tonight. Sunday is daylight savings time and clocks should be set back by an hour at 2 a.m. But the state fire commissioner and Pittsburgh mayor are asking people to also consider updating their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors. "Taking a few minutes to change the batteries in your smoke alarms can mean a world of difference in making sure your family is safe," Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said in a media statement. "As we approach this holiday season, accidental fires become more common, so this step is even more important." Pittsburgh residents can also call the Mayor's 3-1-1 Response Line and have firefighters install smoke detectors for free.
