PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Skiers are hitting the slopes for the first time this season in the Laurel Highlands.
Both Seven Springs and Hidden Valley are now open for business.
The resorts have been making snow for days to get the slopes ready. They say even though the weather will be warm this weekend, the conditions will be great.
"Nov. 30 – it's in the 40s here," said Scott Bender, of Hidden Valley. "Seven runs open, one chairlift, two carpets; [it's a] great day to be out here for the first day."
Snow making will resume once the temperatures drop.
The resorts are open about two weeks earlier than last year.
It’s good news for skiers and the resorts alike, after an unusually warm winter cut last year’s season short.
"We are looking at the long-term forecast, and calling for colder than normal and snowier than normal and that certainly gets us excited," Anan Weltz, of Seven Springs, said.
