EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (93-7 THE FAN) — The Steelers’ two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback triumphed over the Giants’ two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback with another big fourth quarter, but it wasn’t the first thing on his mind after a 24-20 win Sunday.

“During this game–especially the salute to the soldiers–it makes you really appreciate what we do,” said Ben Roethlisberger, as government and military officials who aided in Hurricane Sandy relief efforts were honored before the opening kickoff. “We have to be so appreciative of the game we get to play. We call it work, but it really is a game. There’s so much bigger things going on in our country…our thoughts and prayers are with everybody who’s just gone through so much.”

Having said that, Roethlisberger, who finished 21-of-30 for 216 yards and two TD’s, has Mike Wallace’s 51-yard catch-and-run that cut the deficit to 20-17 at the front of his mind as the turning point of the game.

“That was big,” said Big Ben. “It was a hot read. Mike broke it off. As soon as he caught it, I could tell he was a determined, upset wide receiver. He was mad he dropped one earlier, and I obviously threw that interception earlier that was a stupid pass. But that just picked everybody up. That was big for us.”

He also talked about the role of the running game, led by Isaac Redman, and another strong game called by offensive coordinator Todd Haley:

The Steelers (5-3), winners of three straight, return home for a Monday night game against the Chiefs (1-7).
