Apple has reportedly started work on its first retail store in Belgium, which will be located in the city of Ghent in the Veldstraat shopping center. The store is expected to open in late 2012 — in time for the holiday season — or in early 2013.
Belgian Apple blog Apple Nieuws Vlaanderen reports that it has received “numerous tips” about the store, which is already under construction. In typical Apple fashion, the store windows have been blacked out while work continues behind the scenes.
Apple Nieuws Vlaanderen reports that the store will be a big blow to an Apple reseller called Switch located right around the corner, which only recently revamped its store.
Despite boasting more than 300 million visitors in the last year, and more than 50,000 Genius Bar visits each and every day, Apple only has 375 retail stores worldwide. It’s slowly opening new ones all over the place, but there are still a large number of countries that do not have one, relying on third-party resellers instead.
Apple is expected to have around 400 retail stores by the end of the year, and it looks like one of those will be in Ghent, Belgium.
