CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — It was back to work on Wednesday for Cpl. Dan Hahn at the Cranberry Township Police Department.
The police officer nearly died back on Feb. 14, 2011, after he chased a suspect from a Jackson Township overpass and fell 20 feet.
The suspect died, but Hahn survived.
"I remember chasing him and the next thing I really fully remember is waking up to my dad who was standing next to me several weeks later," said Cpl. Hahn.
After 21 months of painful physical therapy and support from family and police officers, Hahn is now back.
"I know without a doubt that it's by the grace of God that I'm here today," he says. "I never quit; I never gave up, and that was probably one of the biggest reasons I didn't retire is, I guess in a way, it was kind of like giving up."
He’s on a doctor restricted four-hour, three-day workweek, but says it's great to be back.
"I've already started a couple projects; I have a little list I need to work through now," he said. "Hopefully though, it will get me back in the swing of things."
Hahn has been a police officer for 30 years; 23 of which are with Cranberry Township.
