ELLWOOD CITY (KDKA) – It looks like the nativity scene at the center of a local controversy will have a new home this year, in front of an old Catholic Church that has been refurbished into a bar and restaurant.
Ellwood City fought a legal battle last year over the right to keep its nativity scene in front of city hall. But worried that the court fight could cost more than a million dollars, the city council decided to move the nativity scene off of city property.
Now the nativity scene will be placed in front of an old Catholic Church refurbished into a bar and restaurant.
The residents of Ellwood City are also starting a new effort. They want to call their town, “Ellwood: The City With The Nativity.” The owner of a business has purchased hundreds of signs with the name change on them.
Ellwood City Mayor Anthony Court says don’t be surprised if the nativity is placed back in front of city hall sometime down the road.
