McCutchen Tries To Look Past Bittersweet Finish

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — The Pirates (79-83) finished 2012 with their highest win total in 15 years, though, in doing so, they also finished the most ignominious collapse in MLB history, which center fielder Andrew McCutchen is already trying to forget.

After Wednesday’s season-closing 4-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves at PNC Park, 93.7 The Fan’s Joe Starkey caught up with the National League All-Star, who still feels good about the future of his team.

“We’ve shown the talent’s here. There’s nothing that needs to be said or done, we just have to go out and do it,” McCutchen said. “I’m just focused on the team we have, and the things we did right.”

Check out the rest of his remarks:

McCutchen’s individual slide was also a major second-half storyline; he led the NL batting race for much of the season before settling for second place and a .327 average. Technically, batting champion Buster Posey’s San Francisco teammate, Melky Cabrera, had a higher average, but eliminated himself from the race after failing a mid-season drug test.

Cutch did, however, lead the league in runs (107) and hits (193), while leading the Pirates with 31 homers, 96 RBI, a .400 on-base percentage, and .554 slugging percentage.

“Seibel, Starkey & Miller” can be heard weekdays 2:00-6:00 on your flagship home of the Bucs, SportsRadio 93.7 The Fan.
