Recycle Pet Cans at Pet Expo Pittsburgh for a chance to Win Pet Food for a Year!

RECYCLE AT "PET EXPO PITTSBURGH" FOR CHANCE TO WIN FREE PET FOOD FOR A YEAR!

In celebration of "America Recycles Day” in November, the Pennsylvania Resources Council is launching CANS FOR PETS, an effort to increase the total number of aluminum pet food cans recycled each year and to provide funding to support local shelter animals.

Animal lovers can drop off clean, empty aluminum pet food cans at "Pet Expo Pittsburgh" Nov. 2 – 4 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center – and one lucky recycler will win free pet food for a year!  PRC will donate 5 cents per empty aluminum pet food can collected to the Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center.  PRC is also establishing several permanent drop-off locations throughout western Pennsylvania.

"CANS FOR PETS is a simple concept, but it's definitely a win-win for everyone involved," according to PRC Regional Director Dave Mazza.  "Fluffy and Fido get to enjoy their favorite meals, pet lovers get a chance to keep empty aluminum pet food cans out of local landfills, and the Animal Rescue League receives a nickel for every aluminum pet food can collected as part of this project."

Recycling rates for pet food cans are significantly less than those of other cans (less than 20% of aluminum pet food cans are recycled each year compared to 65% of aluminum beverage cans), according to industry experts.

To learn more about CANS FOR PETS, visit http://www.prc.org/ or call PRC at 412-488-7490 x246.

CANS FOR PETS is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Alcoa Foundation in partnership with PRC, Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center, Petco and the City of Pittsburgh.
