VOLUNTEERS
The United Way Volunteer Center matches volunteers with nonprofit community agencies. The following listings are for volunteers 18 years and older with flexible hours available unless otherwise noted. A background check is required and training provided for most listings. Volunteer Opportunities
- American Red Cross -- Disaster services volunteers are needed in both Flagler and Volusia for planning, preparedness, community disaster education, mitigation and response during local disasters. Training Provided.
- Community Foundation of East Central Florida -- Volunteer needed who can take a web-based data management system and personalize it to our organization. Also, upload data on our contacts and donors to make it easy for us to create mailing or email lists for projects. This is a virtual opportunity and can be done from the comforts of your home. Board members and special events planner are also needed.
- Community Legal Services -- Volunteers needed to serve as emergency help line attendants and provide other clerical support.
- Domestic Abuse Council -- Needs administrative support volunteers and Children's Center volunteers to assist with planning and developing activities for children in the center. Also needed, volunteer court advocates to assist victims of domestic violence through criminal and civil court issues. Volunteer housekeepers, recreation, craft assistants, shelter cook and crisis call are also needed.
- Financial Educator Facilitator -- The United Way of Volusia-Flagler's Campaign for working families is recruiting volunteers who are interested in becoming a financial education facilitator. Volunteers will teach the FDIC Money Smart Class to individuals within our community to enhance their financial knowledge, create a positive banking relationship and foster financial stability.
- Flagler Community & Senior Services -- Volunteers are needed to provide an hour or two of companionship per week to homebound clients or to provide daily telephone reassurance, which can be done from the volunteer's home. Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed, too.
- Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation -- Ranger station volunteer is needed to greet visitors, check in campers and answer phones. People skills, minor computer skills, money handling and cash register skills required. Minimum age 18.
- Great Kids Explorer's Club -- Study Buddy mentors are needed. Volunteers needed to help a child learn and be successful in many ways in Ormond Beach on Monday and Wednesday afternoons and in DeLeon Springs on Tuesday afternoons.
- Guardian ad Litem -- The volunteer Guardian ad Litem is a representative for the child before the court, social service agencies and the community. Volunteer also protects the child during the family crisis, court proceedings and follows the child's progress after the court disposed of the case. Opportunities in both Flagler and Volusia Counties.
- Haven Hospice: Bunnell -- Administrative and community outreach volunteers are needed to provide support by preparing information and materials for mailings, hand-outs, training's and events; data entry and other clerical and receptionist duties. Outreach volunteers will represent and share Haven Hospice's mission and information at various community events throughout Flagler County. There is a patient and family training this coming Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. You must complete the application and screening process prior to training.
- Hospice Care -- Volunteers needed throughout Volusia and Flagler counties to provide administrative support, bereavement support, as well as, patient/family support. Student volunteers age 16 and older are welcome.
- Reading Pals -- Volunteers needed to serve as reading mentors to pre-kindergarten and VPK students in Volusia and Flagler counties. Must commit to one or more 30 minute sessions, twice a week, for a full school year in order to provide the student with a total of 25 contact hours. A structured curriculum is provided. Background screening and training required (no cost to volunteers).
- The Arc of Volusia -- Volunteers needed for receptionist duties, light computer work and filing. Extra-curricular activity volunteer is also needed.
- The House Next Door -- Nurture and empower families to build stronger communities. Volunteers needed to mentor and tutor youths in the Homework Club which meets Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in DeLand. The children need help with reading and math. At least a three-month commitment is requested. Background screening is required.
- Volusia and Flagler County Schools -- Mentors are needed to meet with an at-risk student on a weekly basis to give support to the student, to promote the values of education, to encourage attendance, and to teach the student to set and reach goals.
