WILKINSBURG (KDKA) — Authorities are investigating after a gruesome discovery Saturday afternoon in Wilkinsburg.
A badly-decomposed body was found in a wooded and overgrown area behind a vacant home in the 1100-block of Sherman Street.
Allegheny County Police Assistant Superintendent James Morton said it’s not clear if the victim is a man or a woman, but the body may have been there for a week or more.
Meanwhile, neighbors said they heard gunshots in the area late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. Police were called to the scene, but found nothing.
Keyanna Morgan, a neighbor, said she heard three shots and knew immediately it was gunfire.
"I believe it was Tuesday night, like around 11:30ish, and we just heard gunshots," said Morgan. "Then, the cops came and asked us, did we hear somebody screaming, 'help me, help me,' but we said no cause we didn't. I was just scared and surprised."
According to neighbors, the person may have suffered a head wound.
If the death is ruled as a homicide, it would be the 10th this year in Wilkinsburg.
