BRIDGEVILLE (KDKA) – The Pittsburgh region is already experiencing some persistent rain associated with the Hurricane Sandy, but the soggy ground is likely what caused a hillside to give way in Bridgeville Monday morning.
As a result of the hillside giving way, a tall tree came crashing down onto Ridge Road and narrowly missed a house. However, it struck a Jeep in the driveway and caused some minor damage.
The tree also brought down four utility poles and power crews are at the scene working to restore service.
A tree service has also been called in to take down another tree that officials fear could also come down.
"I was inside doing some paperwork and I heard a loud noise. About 10 minutes later I went outside to see what it was and I saw a tree in my driveway and I saw four utility poles down all the way up the street," T.J. Britton said
Ridge Road is expected to remain closed through the evening rush hour and motorists are being advised to avoid the area.
