Give Your iPhone 5 Or MacBook Danish Mid-Century Chic With RAW's Beautiful Leather & Wood Skins

One of the consequences of the iPhone 5′s streamlined, ultra-thin design is that you can no longer just pop off the backplate of the device and replace it. That means no more Don-Draper-esque teak backs or glowing Apple logos or anything else that you could do to deeply personalize your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.

So what do you do if you want to customize your iPhone 5 without having to slap a bulky case on it? You skin it. And RAW out of Brooklyn is making some of the best custom skins for the iPhone 5 around out of quality leather and wood grain to give your handset a classier look.

RAW is a one-man operation out of a local wood working shop in Brooklyn, New York run by Michael Victorovich, who was kind enough to send us some samples of his skins for review. We came away impressed: not only does RAW have a wide range of pretty leathers and wood patterns to choose from, but installation was simple and the results both felt and looked extremely good in the hand.

Even better: the RAW skins actually help protect your iPhone 5 from the scratches it is somewhat notoriously prone to picking up, while adding negligible bulk to the device.

RAW doesn’t just do iPhone skins, either. They do leather and wood MacBook skins that I’m just dying to try out.

RAW’s prices are quite reasonable: a skin out of wood or leather for either the MacBook or the iPhone 5 start at just $25. And after a couple of weeks using one of their skins, it’s still in pristine nick on the back of my iPhone and feels like an extension of the device.

If you’re in the market for something less bulky and more distinctive than a case, I recommend RAW’s skins. They’re very choice.
