Harrison: I Was Afraid Of Getting Fined

PITTSBURGH (93-7 THE FAN) — The NFL has caught plenty of flak from fans around here for past fines levvied against All-Pro linebacker James Harrison. On Sunday Harrison actually admitted he didn’t want to put himself in a position where Steeler Nation had more ammo.

“I was nervous. I thought he might duck his head, and I might hit him, and I didn’t want any fines,” he told Post-Gazette reporter and 93.7 The Fan Steelers insider Ed Bouchette after a 16-14 win over the Philadelphia Eagles at Heinz Field. “It’s Michael Vick. He can shake-and-bake…you have to almost sit there and wait, just to see what he’s going to do. If he drops his head down at the last second, and we make helmet-to-helmet contact, it’s the fault of the defender.”

Harrison also admitted Sunday’s win was no work of art, but generally saw improvement by the defense, which forced two critical turnovers and minimized the damage done by the always dangerous Vick.

“You can’t let him make plays with his legs. We had to keep him contained so he couldn’t get out of the pocket, and keep constant pressure on him. It wasn’t necessarily about sacks,” Harrison explained.

In addition, he talked about how he felt after his first game since off-season knee surgery:
