The Steelers suffered multiple injuries on the offensive line last Thursday in Nashville and while the status of Pro-Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey is still up in the air, we do know that rookie Mike Adams will be playing in place of starting right tackle Marcus Gilbert.  It will be the first career start for Adams, so let us give you a little more insight on the rookie before Sunday’s game.

Who is Mike Adams?

Born in Farrell, PA and raised in Dublin, OH, Adams was an all-state lineman his junior and senior year in high school at Dublin Coffman High School.  He committed to play his college ball at Ohio State during his junior year in high school.  Adams could have gone to pretty much any school in the country, but chose to stay in state and play for the Buckeyes.  According to Rivals.com, Adams was the top offensive tackle in the 2008 recruiting class and ranked 3rd overall behind only Jeannette star Terrelle Pryor, who also went to Ohio State and DaQuan Bowers a defensive end from South Carolina that played college ball at Clemson before being drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past April.  Adams saw the field in is first year in Columbus, playing in 5 games as a true freshman in 2008.  He ended his career with the Buckeyes starting in his final 23 games for Ohio State.

How did he become a Steeler?

Mike Adams was considered one of the top offensive tackles in the 2012 NFL Draft, but he tested positive during his drug test at the NFL Draft Combine, causing concern for many teams in the league.  Once considered a certain 1st round pick, Adams dropped all the way to the 2nd round and the 56th overall pick where the Steelers were waiting with open arms.

His Career As A Steeler?

It is still early in his career, but Adams has already played in 4 of the first 5 games for the Steelers this season.  Adams was drafted in hopes to sure up the problems on the offensive line that the Steelers have had in recent years.  It now looks like Adams will be thrown into the fire full force as a starter at right tackle on prime time television Sunday night, as he returns to his home state for the first time as a professional.
