PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Convicted child molester Jerry Sandusky will soon get a new residence, but his life in prison will not be an easy one.

Sentenced to 30 to 60 years, Jerry Sandusky at age 68 will die in jail says former state Correctional Institution Captain Bill Rump, who worked 25 years in the state prison system.

"He most likely will be in prison for the rest of his life," Rump said.

Sandusky’s first stop will be the prison at Camp Hill.

"They’ll run a bunch of tests on him like psychological tests and the whole 9 yards to try to decide at that point in time what institution to send him to," Rump said.

Convicted of multiple assaults, Sandusky could end up in a high security prison. More likely is SCI Laurel Highlands that has medical facilities for elderly inmates.

No matter where he ends up, other prisoners will take notice of the child molester.

"There’s going to be catcalls, aren’t there?" KDKA's Jon Delano asked Rump.

"There’s no doubt about that," Rump said. "He’s going to be faced with that. It’s going to be a tough situation. It’s a high profile case."

If not in solitary, Sandusky will be in a bunk bed with another inmate. He’ll get exercise time outside his cell and he can work in the laundry, kitchen or clean-up, the pay a far cry from his Penn State salary.

"Maybe 20 cents an hour or something," Rump said.

And Sandusky can buy a TV to watch football games, although hours and stations are limited, but as a child molester, his greatest risk may be other prisoners.

"He’s going to be under scrutiny all the time, so it’s going to be a tough situation," Rump said.

Now if Sandusky decides to write a book while in prison, state law is clear — he cannot collect a dime off that book.

As to whether his victims can get compensated, that depends on civil lawsuits yet to come.
