Week 7 NFL Recap
Oct 23rd 2012, 11:19

Let’s take our weekly look back at the week that was in the NFL for week 7.

THE ONE AND ONLY The Atlanta Falcons were on a bye week this week, therefore they stay undefeated, the only undefeated team in the NFL remaining this year.  Atlanta will travel to Philadelphia this Sunday to take on the Eagles in hopes of keeping their perfect record intact.  There are only 2 other teams in the NFL with just 1 loss.  The Chicago Bears are 5-1 after a 13-7 victory on Monday night and the Houston Texans lead the AFC with a 6-1 record.

AFC NORTH RECAP The AFC North finished with a 1-3 record in week 7.  The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Bengals and were the lone team to get a win this week, so they gained a game on everyone else.  The Ravens lost bad on the road in Houston.  The Texans won for the first time ever against the Ravens, 43-13 on Sunday afternoon.  The 43 points allowed by the Ravens is the most in a single game the team has allowed since the 2007 season, when the Colts scored 44.  Speaking of the Colts, they handed Cleveland their 6th loss of the season beating the Browns 17-13.  The Colts got on the board first, midway through the 1st quarter and never trailed.  Defenses dominated the game as neither team was able to score in the final 18 minutes of game time.

A small slate of games this week in the division, as both Baltimore and Cincinnati are on bye. WEEK 8 SCHEDULE: San Diego @ Cleveland Washington @ Pittsburgh

INJURY REPORT For maybe the first time all season, the Steelers came out of a game healthy for the most part.  Maybe more noteworthy was how well the back-ups played in the 24-17 win in Cincinnati for those Steelers that are still injured.

Elsewhere in the league, the biggest injury news came from Oakland where the Jacksonville Jaguars lost RB Maurice Jones-Drew with a foot injury.  Jones-Drew sat out all of the preseason in hopes to get a contract extension.  He did not get that extension and re-joined the team.  Now he may be facing season ending surgery on his left foot.  The biggest injury news on the defensive side of the ball was former Defensive MVP Charles Woodson breaking his collarbone in the Packers win in St. Louis Sunday.  It is the second time in less than 2 years he has suffered the same injury.  The last time was in the Super Bowl against the Steelers in February of 2011.  Woodson is expected to miss 6 weeks this time around.

KEEPING IT CLOSE The competitive balance in the NFL was on full display in week 7.  11 of the 13 games played were decided by 1 score or less with 2 games being decided in overtime.  Of the 9 other games, in 5 of them the losing team was driving for the tying or game winning score as time expired.

AFC vs NFC There were no AFC vs NFC match-ups in week 7, which was probably a good thing for AFC teams.  So far this year the NFC has a 19-9 advantage over the AFC.  Week 8 will provide 4 chances for AFC teams to close that gap.  The Steelers, Patriots, Broncos and Jaguars all cross over and play NFC foes this week.
