CINCINNATI (93-7 THE FAN) — The local media became an easy target for Ike Taylor leading up to Sunday, while, at the same time, Taylor had become an easy target for opposing QB’s. But head coach Mike Tomlin was satisfied with his performance in a 24-17 Steeler victory against the host Bengals.
“I’ll let you guys be the judge of that,” Tomlin said when asked about the play of his recently controversial cornerback. “We played winning football, and he was a part of it. He did what we asked him to do. It was a good overall team effort in all three phases.”
To the coach’s point, a makeshift offensive line featuring Doug Legursky in lieu of injured center Maurkice Pouncey shook off an early turnover, and allowed the Steelers’ offense to out-gain Cincinnati 431 yards to 185.
“Fortunately–and unfortunately–although some of those guys aren’t starters, they’re experienced,” he added. “We’ve played a lot of ball with Legursky over the years…and we’re optimistic about what [Mike] Adams is capable of being, so it wasn’t a situation we went into with negative thoughts.
“They answered the bell, as they should. They’re capable men, and we were able to have a good, well-rounded attack on offense tonight.”
