HOPEDALE (KDKA) — Two miners, trapped for nearly 10 hours, were rescued in Ohio Wednesday evening.
Officials are breathing a sigh of relief in Hopedale, Ohio after two miners were trapped nearly all day.
According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the two miners were in a mine about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The roof then collapsed resulting in very thick pile of rubble that trapped the miners.
The miners were not injured, however, it took rescuers most of the day to dig through that rubble and dig through the mine.
The miners emerged at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.
According to mine safety records, there have been a number of safety problems at this particular mine.
Over the past five years, the mine has received numerous citations. There have been 18 injuries reported, as well.
The mine has recently paid over $360,000 in fines.
The circumstances of the incident are unclear at this time.
