ARNOLD (KDKA) — Police in Westmoreland County are investigating after two people were discovered dead overnight inside of a home in Arnold.
Forensics teams and police were called to the home in the 1500-block of 3rd Avenue after 11 p.m. Thursday and remained there overnight and into the morning hours processing the scene.
The identities of the two people found dead have not been released, but authorities say one was middle-aged woman and the other was a younger man.
The bodies could have been there for at least two days, police said.
According to investigators, a friend of the woman made the discovery when he came by the home Thursday night. He reportedly knocked on the door and that's when the pets of the people living inside came to a window.
Authorities say the dogs pushed back the curtains just enough that the visitor could see in, spotting the woman lying near the front door and then calling police.
When investigators got inside, they also found the man dead, reportedly on the first floor.
No cause of death has been released. The home was reportedly being rented.
