CINCINNATI (93-7 THE FAN) — Perhaps, of all the Tomlin-isms we’ve heard lo these five-plus years, “the standard is the standard” is the one both quoted and satirized the most. In any event, it’s the one that backup running back Jonathan Dwyer apparently takes to heart.

With primary backfield brethren Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman inactive, Dwyer took charge, rambling for 122 yards on 17 carries, a season-best for any Steeler rusher, in a 24-17 win at Paul Brown Stadium.

“I think it shows a lot about the level of talent we have here,” said Dwyer, who echoed Tomlin’s expression after Sunday’s important AFC North victory. “It’s troubled circumstances…but it’s an opportunity for the next man to step up. As a unit, we want to fill that void. That was our main focus going into this game.”

The Steelers finished a critical 10-of-16 on third down. Dwyer converted five of those situations, including a 3rd-and-7 inside two minutes left in the game on which he darted up the middle, and cut to his left for a game-clinching run deep into Bengals territory.

Dwyer praised the play of his offensive line, which generally performed well despite two key injuries:

The Steelers (3-3) are back home for a meeting with ‘RG3′ and the Redskins (3-4) next Sunday at 1:00.
