PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — A Washington DC police officer was arrested in Pittsburgh after he allegedly threatened a Port Authority bus driver.
The bus was packed with passengers and there were no empty seats late Friday night.
According to police, William Anderson, III, pulled out his expandable baton – swinging it wildly – when told he would stand or wait for another bus if he wanted to ride this particular bus.
Police reports indicate the DC police officer yelled: "Are you disrespecting me? I'm a cop. I deserve respect."
Port Authority police arrived. The DC police officer blamed the bus driver stating, "He threatened me."
Port Authority police who made the arrest say the suspect "… refused to drop the baton… stepped towards me."
A Port Authority police officer used a taser on the suspect. Still, according to police, the suspect was very combative towards officers.
Witnesses say bus passengers were so concerned about their safety, they stood and cheered Port Authority police once they had the DC police officer in custody.
Anderson is charged with reckless endangerment, terroristic threats and harassment. The officer is on leave and is in Pittsburgh as a graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University.
