GREENFIELD (KDKA) — A home invasion in Greenfield turns into a drug bust and now two suspects are in jail.
Joshua Clary and Elizabeth Benson, both 34, have been charged after large amounts of marijuana were discovered in a home on Graphic Street in Greenfield.
Police say there was about $8,000 worth of marijuana recovered as well as prescription drugs and a shot gun.
Police say it appears that Clary possibly called a friend to say his home was being burglarized. In turn, that friend called 9-1-1.
When police arrived at the home, they were met by Clary who was holding a shotgun.
"When that person called 9-1-1, they told the 9-1-1 operator that there was a shotgun readily available in the home. When the officers got there, they thought that [Clary] was the burglar and it turns out he was the homeowner and he admitted to that later," says Pittsburgh Police Commander Kathy Degler.
Police say when they arrived at that home, they smelled the marijuana coming from the home. Police then obtained a search warrant and discovered the growing operation inside the home.
Clary and Benson are both being charged with possession with intent to deliver as well as manufacturing drugs.
Benson's 5-year-old son is now in the custody of the Office of Children, Youth and Families of the Allegheny Department of Human Services.
